The Gobles Tigers will face off against the Lawton Blue Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Gobles' pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Kellogg 16-0. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Daisy Jackson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Jackson was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.
In other batting news, Alana Gonzalez and Ashlyn Myers did most of the damage at the plate: Gonzalez went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Myers got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Makenna Hunt was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lawton). They put the hurt on Hackett Catholic Prep with a sharp 13-1 victory on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Blue Devils considering their two-run performance the game before.
Like Gobles, Lawton also got a great game from a two-way player: Paityn Beam. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). Beam has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lily McCory, who went 2-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Kaidence Beam, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Lawton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.
Gobles' win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for Lawton, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.
Lawton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Gobles has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Lawton, though, as they've been averaging 11.3 hits. Given Gobles' sizable advantage in that area, the Blue Devils will need to find a way to close that gap.
Gobles took their victory against Lawton in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 18-2 score. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
