Miami has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. The Miami Eagles and the Heartland Mustangs will round out the year against one another at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at. Miami will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Missouri Rankings (they are ranked 572nd, while Heartland is ranked 170th).
On December 8th, Miami lost to Jefferson Independent Day at home by a decisive 46-31 margin.
Heartland has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 51-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Midway on Wednesday. Heartland has not had much luck with Midway recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Heartland got a solid performance out of Diego Martinez, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds. Those 13 rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Odom, who scored three points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Miami bumped their record down to 0-5 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Heartland, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3.
Things could have been worse for Miami, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 59-45 loss to Heartland in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. Thankfully for Miami, Aaron McCubbin (who scored 22 points along with seven rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
