Basketball Recap: Immaculata-La Salle Piles Up the Points Against Sunset

Immaculata-La Salle entered their tilt with Sunset on Wednesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Sunset Knights, posting a 54-20 victory. The Royal Lions have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 23 points or more this season.

Immaculata-La Salle was led to victory by Alexandra Gonzalez Casar and Candy Cruz. Gonzalez Casar dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 boards, while Cruz posted 14 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. What's more, Gonzalez Casar also racked up seven steals, the most she's had since back in November of 2023. Ainoa Haliwa was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Immaculata-La Salle smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

Sunset lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Andreina Perez, who had eight points and six steals. Perez has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jazlyn Fleitas, who put up four points and ten rebounds.

Immaculata-La Salle's record is now 9-1. As for Sunset, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Immaculata-La Salle and Florida Christian will dust off their jerseys to square off against one another at 5:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Immaculata-La Salle has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Sunset, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Coral Park at 6:00 p.m. on January 6, 2025. Sunset is facing Coral Park at the right time seeing as Coral Park is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
