Viera took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Friday. They won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by the Rockledge Raiders 22-21. For the Hawks, this counts as revenge for the 10-0 victory the Raiders walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2024.
Viera's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Eric Nelson, who threw for 182 yards and two TDs, and also rushed for 94 yards. Duke Butler helped out on the ground, rushing for 88 yards and a rushing touchdown.
Another reason for the win was Viera's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Sal Orlando.
Looking ahead, Viera will be playing in front of their home fans against Deltona at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Rockledge, they are taking a road trip to take on Eau Gallie at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
