Baseball Recap: Southern Academy Extends Winning Streak to Four

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Southern Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They won by a run and slipped past the Jackson Academy Eagles 15-14. The victory was familiar territory for the Cougars, who have now won four games in a row.

Drew Rogers made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Rogers was even better at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 4-for-5. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

In other batting news, Walt Etheridge and Patrick Thomas did most of the damage at the plate: Etheridge got on base in all six of his plate appearances with two RBI, while Thomas scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-5. Charlie Christian also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Southern Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .612. The last time their OBP was this high was back in February of 2024.

Southern Academy pushed their record up to 12-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of two runs across that stretch. As for Jackson Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season.

Southern Academy will take on Patrician Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Jackson Academy, they will welcome Escambia Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Escambia Academy has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.77 runs per game on average), something Jackson Academy will no doubt try to take advantage of.
