| 04/19/25 @ Turpin | 5 |
Joey Albert looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Connor Powderly, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Steven Meltebrinck also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Archbishop McNicholas kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in four consecutive games.
Anderson hit Walnut Hills with a 11-run fifth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles came up short against the Raptors, falling 17-7. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Raptors recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Walnut Hills saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Michael Scruggs, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases and three runs. Scruggs has become a key player for the Eagles: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-10 otherwise. Another was Rhys Wise, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double.
Archbishop McNicholas' victory bumped their record up to 12-7. As for Walnut Hills, their loss dropped their record down to 4-11.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Archbishop McNicholas has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Walnut Hills struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
