The Richlands Wildcats will challenge the Pamlico County Hurricanes at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Richlands will be strutting in after a win while Pamlico County will be coming in after a defeat.
Richlands took a loss when they played away from home last Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over East Duplin. The Wildcats' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Hayden Turner was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caleb Simco, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. He also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Tanner Brinson, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Pamlico County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Washington, falling 14-0. The game marked the first time this year in which the Hurricanes were not able to get on the board.
The win got Richlands back to even at 2-2. As for Pamlico County, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Richlands has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Pamlico County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Richlands came out on top in a nail-biter against Pamlico County in their previous meeting two weeks ago, sneaking past 4-3. Will Richlands repeat their success, or does Pamlico County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
