In what's become a running theme this season, the Wootton Patriots gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They blew past Damascus 63-36 on the road. Given Wootton's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 68th, while the Hornets are ranked 215th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wootton's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Khairi Hyde, who scored 12 points along with three steals. Hyde continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jaiden Aze, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Wootton is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. As for Damascus, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wootton will take on the Cougars at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Damascus, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Gladiators at 7:15 p.m.
