Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Bishop Timon-St. Jude

Bishop Timon-St. Jude extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday, bumping their season record up to 4-2 in the process. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute Marauders a 5-0 shutout. This was payback for the Tigers, who suffered a 16-5 defeat the last time these two teams met.

The result came thanks to Brendan Gossling's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up 16 Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Bishop Timon-St. Jude is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-2 otherwise.

At the plate, Wes Miller was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. He also scored a run, marking his first of the season.

As for St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season. The match marked the first time this year in which they were not able to get on the board.

On St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute's side, they got a good showing from Matthew Anzalone, who struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). What's more, Anzalone gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bishop Timon-St. Jude is headed away from home for the first time to face off against Depew at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute, they will head out to square off against Orchard Park at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
