It's playoff time, and Brandon had no trouble coming through when it counted. They put the hurt on the Oak Grove Warriors with a sharp 13-1 win on Wednesday. Considering the Bulldogs have won 17 games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Jay McQueen was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two doubles, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Brandon's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 16-4 (and 7-8 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Keith Forbes, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Jacob Chancelor was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Brandon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oak Grove only posted an OBP of .222.
The victory (which was Brandon's fifth in a row) raised their record to 23-12. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Oak Grove, their loss ended an eight-game streak of away wins and brought them to 25-7.
As of now, neither Brandon nor the Warriors have any future games scheduled.
