Mia Gonzalez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 4-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emma Cazares, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Calista Beltran, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
Buena Park was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Laguna Hills was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They lost 9-0 to Calvary Chapel. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Hawks haven't been shut out since back in February.
Hannah Russell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and six unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. Those earned runs were her first of the season.
At the plate, Laguna Hills saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kassidy Patterson, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Laguna Hills' loss dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Buena Park, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
Laguna Hills' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Buena Park hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .327. It's a different story for Laguna Hills, though, as they've only averaged .257. Will they be able to contain Buena Park's hitters?
