The Rock Hill Bearcats had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They skirted past Fort Mill 53-50. The win was all the more spectacular given Rock Hill's disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 124th, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked 28th).
Malik Ashe was a one-man wrecking crew for Rock Hill as he scored 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zacarious Mckinney, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Fort Mill's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was AJ Washington, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Washington has been hot recently, having posted 18 or more points the last three times he's played. Christian McCain was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six rebounds.
Rock Hill's victory bumped their record up to 7-16. As for Fort Mill, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-10 record this season.
Rock Hill will head out on the road to take on the Falcons at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Fort Mill, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Vikings at 8:00 p.m. One thing working in Spring Valley's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four games.
