Baseball Recap: Wilmington Drops Highest Score of Season Against Peotone

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wilmington). They blew past the Peotone Blue Devils 14-0 on Tuesday. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Blue Devils recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

Ryan Kettman made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Wilmington got a massive performance out of Lucas Rink, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Rink has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Cooper Holman also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Wilmington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Peotone only posted a batting average of .059.

Wilmington's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-7. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Peotone, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-15.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wilmington will host Kankakee at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Peotone, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Beecher at 4:00 p.m. The Bobcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.52 runs per game on average), something the Blue Devils will no doubt try to take advantage of.
