With a playoff game on the line, the Pierce County Bears rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 48-45 victory over the Yellowjackets. The win was nothing new for Pierce County as they're now sitting on nine straight.
Pierce County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Caden Mcgatha out in front who rushed for 258 yards and four touchdowns, and also threw for 126 yards and two touchdowns on only seven passes. Mcgatha set a new season high mark in carries with 53. Carson Sloan was another key contributor, gaining 133 total yards and three touchdowns.
Despite the loss, Rockmart still got an impressive performance from Calliyon Thompson, who rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries, and also threw for 185 yards and two touchdowns. That's the first time this season that Thompson rushed for 100 or more yards.
Pierce County pushed their record up to 14-1 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.0 points per game. As for Rockmart, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-3.
