The Cherryville Ironmen won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Tuesday. They were outmatched by East Gaston on the road and fell 73-43. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Cherryville in their matchups with East Gaston: they've now lost five in a row.
Cherryville's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Andron Patterson, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds. Darrien Floyd was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five rebounds.
Cherryville's defeat dropped their record down to 11-10. As for East Gaston, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.
Cherryville will head out on the road to challenge Highland Tech at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Cherryville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Tuesday. As for East Gaston, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Shelby at 7:30 p.m. Shelby will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something East Gaston surely won't give up without a fight.
