The Lecanto Panthers will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Tavares Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully Lecanto is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Tavares in Florida (Lecanto is ranked 74th, while Tavares is ranked 375th).
Lecanto unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Monday. They were outmatched by Wildwood at home and fell 73-27. Lecanto has not had much luck with Wildwood recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Lecanto saw an underclassman step up: Bryleigh Florio scored 13 points along with 6 steals. Florio is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Xena Bellamy, who scored 3 points along with 5 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Tavares' three-game losing streak came to an end on Tuesday. They walked away with a 39-29 win over Mount Dora. The win was just what Tavares needed coming off of a 58-19 loss in their prior game.
Their wins bumped Lecanto to 4-1 and Wildwood to 4-0.
Lecanto ended up a good deal behind Tavares when the teams last played back in February, losing 45-27. Will Lecanto have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other basketball content.
