After flying high against the Oasis Sharks last Thursday, the Island Coast Gators came back down to earth. Island Coast had to suffer through a rough 69-26 loss at the hands of Cypress Lake. Island Coast was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-12.
Island Coast's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aubrey Curry, who scored 15 points along with two steals. Curry continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Samarrah Desir, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Bri Madore was her usual excellent self, scoring 25 points for Cypress Lake. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Madore has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilly Witz, who scored 14 points.
Island Coast has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season. As for Cypress Lake, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Island Coast and North Fort Myers will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully North Fort Myers focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Friday. As for Cypress Lake, they will head out on the road to take on Ida Baker at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
