Brookside extended their losing streak to seven on Monday, dropping their season record down to 3-14 in the process. They came up short against the Keystone Wildcats, falling 20-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-3 last Wednesday.
Brookside saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Markie-Ann Aliff, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one double. Trinity Arend was another, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
As for Keystone, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 9-5. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.
On Keystone's side, Brooklyn Modock made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Modock has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Keystone let Ava Armitage and Anna Wright run wild. Armitage went 2-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Wright went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those three RBI gave Armitage a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bristol Foster, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brookside will square off against Clearview at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Clippers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.07 runs per game on average), something the Cardinals will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Keystone, they will venture away from home to take on Black River at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pirates have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season.
