The Mathis Pirates will head out on the road to face off against the Goliad Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Mathis strolled past Taft with points to spare, taking the game 56-40.
Meanwhile, Goliad put the finishing touches on their 12th blowout victory of the season on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 51-26 margin over George West. With Goliad ahead 28-7 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Mathis' win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-14. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.0 points per game. As for Goliad, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 27-5.
Mathis came up short against Goliad in their previous matchup back in January, falling 44-39. Can Mathis avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
