The North Salinas Vikings struggled with three-point shooting accuracy on Monday (the Alisal Trojans were 23% better) and sadly the final score reflected it. North Salinas was outmatched by Alisal at home and fell 78-38. While losing is never fun, North Salinas can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1020th, while Alisal is ranked 494th).
North Salinas lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Trevon Kubulan, who scored seven points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kubulan has scored all season. Andre Lizaola was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Leading Alisal to victory were Kike Jacinto and Adrian Cardenas. Jacinto scored ten points along with nine rebounds and seven assists, while Cardenas scored 25 points along with five assists. The matchup was Cardenas' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brian Picazo, who scored ten points.
North Salinas' defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Alisal, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Salinas will stay at home for another game and welcome Gilroy at 5:30 p.m. on December 20th. Gilroy is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. Alisal will be home for the holidays to greet Everett Alvarez at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Everett Alvarez and Alisal are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
