East Lincoln might have lost, but man, Emma Montanari was a machine: she posted 21 points in addition to eight boards and six steals. Taniyah Thomas was another key player, putting up 12 points and eight steals.
Even though they lost, East Lincoln smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 55 consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Statesville lost to Hickory on the road by a 49-32 margin on Friday.
East Lincoln will have to keep a close watch on TanDriyana Allison and Symerria Harris, a pair of players who had a big impact on Statesville's prior game. Allison had seven points along with 11 rebounds and four steals, while Harris dropped a double-double with 11 points and ten boards. The dominant performance gave Allison a new career-high in steals.
East Lincoln's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 19-5. As for Statesville, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 8-15 record this season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: East Lincoln has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 36.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Statesville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.3 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
East Lincoln strolled past Statesville in their previous meeting back in January by a score of 59-41. Does East Lincoln have another victory up their sleeve, or will Statesville turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
