The Springtown Porcupines will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Lake Worth Bullfrogs at 7:00 p.m. Springtown will come into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
Springtown is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed past Decatur to the tune of 63-36 last Friday. Given the Porcupines' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 50th, while the Eagles are ranked 231st) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
The match pitted two dominant signal callers against one another in Kaine Hill and Rhys Ragan. Hill had a great game and rushed for 186 yards and six TDs on only 11 carries. Meanwhile, Ragan was balling out in the loss, throwing for 336 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.9 yards per attempt.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Springtown's defensive line and their three sacks. Luis Lazcano was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. Kasen Beaman was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 12 total tackles.
Meanwhile, Lake Worth's game on Thursday was all tied up 16-16 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They walked away with a 33-23 win over Ranchview.
Springtown better keep an eye on Lucas Davis. He was instrumental in Lake Worth's win, throwing for 211 yards and a pair of TDs on only 17 passes.
Lake Worth didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Ranchview to a completion percentage of just 40%. The team can thank Maurice Hubbard for the heroic effort on defense: he. Lake Worth wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 58.8%.
Springtown's record is now 10-0. As for Lake Worth, the victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-8.
Thursday's game might be decided in the trenches. Springtown has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 190.9 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Lake Worth, though, as they've been averaging only 72.2 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Springtown took a serious blow against Lake Worth when the teams last played back in October of 2021, falling 48-19. Thankfully for the Porcupines, Damion Moore (who rushed for 190 yards and a pair of scores on only eight carries, and also picked up 62 receiving yards and one touchdown) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
