Softball Recap: Leopold Wins Going Away Against Richland

Leopold got themselves on the board against Richland on Wednesday, but Richland never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Bears with a sharp 10-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won four matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.

Ashtyn Van De Ven made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ava Jansen, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Rylie Schreiner was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.

Leopold pushed their record up to 5-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.7 runs over those games. As for Richland, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.

Leopold has already played their next game (against Richland), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for the Bears, they will head out to square off against Campbell at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
