Lancaster Catholic has gone a perfect 10-0 against Lancaster Mennonite recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Crusaders will face off against the Blazers at 4:15 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Having struggled with three losses in a row, Lancaster Catholic turned things around against Eastern York on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Golden Knights with a sharp 7-1 win.
Zach Zuber spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits.
On the hitting side, Luis Velez was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Drew Walker, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Lancaster Mennonite never got on the board in their matchup on Wednesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against La Academia Charter on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Leones a 25-0 shutout. That 25 run margin sets a new team best for the Blazers this season.
Jackson Bare was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Bare was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that he snagged this season.
In other pitching news, Connor Halliday looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Reuben Gingrich was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Brady Kinney was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Lancaster Mennonite was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher in three consecutive games.
The victory got Lancaster Mennonite back to even at 3-3. As for Lancaster Catholic, their record is now 3-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lancaster Catholic has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Lancaster Mennonite struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Lancaster Catholic took their win against Lancaster Mennonite when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 12-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Crusaders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
