There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. Among the games was a one-point thriller between Fair Haven and Bellows Falls.
This Week's Big Showdown
The confrontation between Hartford (3rd in the power rankings) and Mt. Mansfield (8th) did not disappoint. Hartford snuck past Mt. Mansfield with a 18 - 14 victory. Even if it didn't bump Hartford up the rankings, the win at least kept the team from dropping.
No Stoppin 'Em
Mill River and Otter Valley went up, up, and away last week as they combined for the highest point total (85) among all power ranked teams. Mill River came out on top in a nail-biter against Otter Valley, sneaking past 44 - 41. Nevertheless, Mill River did not have enough punch to impress the power rankings algorithm and slipped one spot in the rankings.
Movin on Up
It was onward and upward for Spaulding this week as the team hoisted itself up four places in the power rankings -- the largest rise of the week -- after their most recent game. It strolled past Lyndon Institute with points to spare, taking the game 26 - 6. The Lyndon Institute defense has struggled this season (giving up an average of 32 points per game), and Spaulding took advantage of that.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Rutland (2nd in the power rankings) and Burlington/South Burlington (10th). Rutland will be strutting in after a win while Burlington/South Burlington will be stumbling in from a defeat. We'll see if Rutland can add another positive mark to its record or if Burlington/South Burlington can shake off its loss and take the spring out of Rutland's step.
