Softball Recap: Southwick Regional Wins Going Away Against Smith Academy

Southwick Regional barely beat Smith Academy the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Rams put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 14-1 victory on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won four matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Anna Novak was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.

In other batting news, Southwick Regional let Eleanor Rolandini and Brooke Comee run wild. Rolandini got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Comee went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Rolandini is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Catherine Giroux, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Southwick Regional was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .536. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win made it two in a row for Southwick Regional and bumps their season record up to 5-5. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Smith Academy, their defeat was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-4.
