The New Hartford Spartans scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 85-62 margin over Vernon-Verona-Sherrill. Given New Hartford's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 297th, while Vernon-Verona-Sherrill is ranked 618th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Vernon-Verona-Sherrill's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Atticus Roque, who almost dropped a triple-double on 24 points, 11 rebounds, and nine blocks, and Eliijah Donegan who scored 23 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Roque has been hot recently, having posted ten or more rebounds the last four times he's played.
The win (which was New Hartford's third in a row) raised their record to 7-10. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for Vernon-Verona-Sherrill, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season.
New Hartford will be playing in front of their home fans against Notre Dame at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Vernon-Verona-Sherrill, they will head out on the road to take on Rome Free Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Rome Free Academy has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 1,528 points over their last 18 matches.
