Alamo Heights and Jefferson are an even 5-5 against one another since November of 2015, but not for long. The Alamo Heights Mules will be home for the holidays to greet the Jefferson Mustangs at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Alamo Heights has three straight victories, Jefferson has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Friday, Alamo Heights was fully in charge, breezing past Edison 55-20 on the road. Given Alamo Heights' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 202nd, while Edison is ranked 931st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Alamo Heights to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sophia Zadel, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Berkley Hart, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, Jefferson's 25-8 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 45-25 walloping at the hands of Lanier on Tuesday. That's two games in a row now that Jefferson has lost by exactly 20 points.
Alamo Heights has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. As for Jefferson, they bumped their record down to 3-15 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road.
Alamo Heights came up short against Jefferson in their previous matchup back in January, falling 40-36. Can Alamo Heights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
