With a playoff win on the line, Godwin rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Midlothian Trojans with a sharp 10-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.
Luke Smyers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Matthew Hartsfield was incredible, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Eli Macturk, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
The victory (which was Godwin's sixth in a row) raised their record to 18-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Midlothian, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 14-7.
As of now, neither Godwin nor the Trojans have any future games scheduled.
