The Liberty Lions will venture away from home to take on the Kofa Kings at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Liberty is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Liberty proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by six) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over Sunnyslope.
The team relied heavily on Jayden Hosey, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3. Those stolen bases marked the first that he snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Marley Chancey, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Liberty was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sunnyslope only posted a batting average of .200.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Kofa ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Shadow Ridge 8-6.
Jesus Villa looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time he hasn't allowed a single hit since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Ryan Rosas was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Fabian Burgos was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Liberty pushed their record up to 9-0 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. As for Kofa, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-4.
Kofa's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Liberty has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .515. It's a different story for Kofa, though, as they've only averaged .345. Will they be able to contain Liberty's hitters?
Liberty was able to grind out a solid win over Kofa when the teams last played back in February of 2024, winning 5-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Liberty since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
