Mia Rivera spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on three hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jianna Bustamante, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Valeria Portuondo was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Key West). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Hialeah a 15-0 shutout on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Conchs, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.
Brianna Brenner looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, Key West let Kaleya Cervantes and Arianna Garcia run wild. Those two stolen bases gave Cervantes a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maciee Gage, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Key West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 6-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Key West's victory bumped their record up to 13-9. As for Lourdes Academy, their win bumped their record up to 11-5.
Lourdes Academy's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's matchup. Lourdes Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Key West, though, as they've been averaging only 0.5 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Lourdes Academy continue to outrun the ball?
