Van Nuys took a 47-28 bruising from Sylmar on Thursday. Van Nuys has struggled against Sylmar recently, as their game on Thursday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Van Nuys' loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Marlon Figueroa, who gained 106 total yards and two touchdowns, and Carlos Herrera who threw for 246 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72% of his passes.
Jacob McDonald was a one-man wrecking crew for Sylmar as he rushed for 112 yards and a touchdown on only five carries, and also threw for 182 yards and two touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Willard Clark, who gained 136 total yards and two touchdowns.
Van Nuys' defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 4-5. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 15.7 points per game. As for Sylmar, their win bumped their record up to 5-5.
Van Nuys will head out on the road to face off against Kennedy at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. Kennedy is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games. Sylmar does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
