Baseball Game Preview: St. Paul Central Minutemen vs. Washington Tech Eagles

For the second straight game, St. Paul Central will face off against Washington Tech. The Minutemen will be playing at home against the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

St. Paul Central will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Thursday, then bounced right back against Washington Tech on Friday. The Minutemen were the clear victors by an 18-3 margin over the Eagles. Considering the Minutemen have won five matches by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Emmett Jones was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). Jones was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. St. Paul Central is 3-1 when Jones posts two or more runs, but 3-9 otherwise.

In other batting news, Cooper Entenman was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of St. Paul Central's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-10 when he doesn't). Ian McKee was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

St. Paul Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.9 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.2.

St. Paul Central pushed their record up to 6-10 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Washington Tech, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-6.
