2A-1 Region IV District 16 recap Oct. 9, 2012
San Diego extended the longest winning streak in 2A-1 Region IV District 16 this week by beating Mathis, 60-21. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Aransas Pass was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to third in the league. The Panthers defeated Odem 26-21 earlier in the week.
San Diego's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Michael Lichtenberger threw for 57 and one touchdown and Lucas Lopez had 35 yards receiving. On the ground Luis Lopez chipped in 347 yards. Ricky Gonzalez helped San Diego's passing attack out by catching zero balls for 22 yards.
San Diego's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Vaqueros feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Lichtenberger has thrown for 456 yards and five touchdowns this season, while Lopez has seven catches for 171 yards. Lopez leads the league in rushing with 1273 yards.
A big matchup in 2A-1 Region IV District 16 this week will be when the Owls take on Falfurrias. Odem is currently in fourth, while the Bulls are in second.
Bo Ochoa's team moved up to 469 from 615 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Vaqueros were able to make the jump by beating the Pirates 60-21.
