South Adams and Woodlan are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2016, but not for long. The South Adams Starfires will look to defend their home court on Saturday against the Woodlan Warriors at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully South Adams focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Tuesday.
South Adams might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 52-46 to Fort Recovery, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. South Adams has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Loss or not, South Adams got some senior leadership from Macy Pries and Liz Gerber. Pries scored 25 points along with seven rebounds and two steals, while Gerber. scored 11 points along with three steals. That was a full 54.3% of South Adams' points, marking the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
In what's become a running theme this season, Woodlan gave their fans yet another huge win on Wednesday. They blew past Fremont 59-38. The score was close at the half, but Woodlan pulled away in the second half with 33 points.
Woodlan got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Taylor Kneubuhler out in front who scored 21 points along with nine rebounds. Kneubuhler is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last nine games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Anderson, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
South Adams has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. As for Woodlan, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a massive bump to their 13-8 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: South Adams have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 25.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Woodlan struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 33 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
