It was a good run, but Hillsboro unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 14-11 to the Ferris Yellowjackets. Izzy Hernandez was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and 12 unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other batting news, Brynlie Vantreese was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4. She is also on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Laci Forns, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-5.
Hillsboro's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 12-7. As for Ferris, they now have a winning record of 9-8-2.
Coincidentally, Hillsboro and Ferris will both be playing Godley the next time they take the field. Ferris will head out to face Godley at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while Hillsboro will host them at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
