The Mesa Verde Mavericks lost against the Mira Loma Matadors back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Mesa Verde was the victim of a rough 67-41 loss at the hands of Mira Loma. Mesa Verde was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-12.
When it comes to explaining why Mesa Verde lost, one person who can't be blamed is Maanav Shergill. Despite the final result, he scored 17 points. Those 17 points set a new season-high mark for him. Ryan Jorgensen was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Mesa Verde bumped their record down to 3-11 with that loss, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Mira Loma, their victory bumped their record up to 11-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mesa Verde will challenge Casa Roble at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Casa Roble has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 1,229 points over their last 17 contests. As for Mira Loma, they will head out on the road to face off against Woodland at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
