On Tuesday, the Douglas Tigers faced the Damonte Ranch Mustangs in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Douglas secured a 47-42 W over Damonte Ranch. Winning may never get old, but Douglas sure is getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Douglas' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aleeah Weaver, who scored 15 points along with two steals. That's the first time this season that Weaver scored 15 or more points. Hailee Koontz was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Damonte Ranch had strong showings from Quinn Garrett, who scored 12 points along with four steals, and Mya Ghisletta, who scored 12 points along with two steals. Ghisletta has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played.
Douglas pushed their record up to 11-5 with that win, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.7 points per game. As for Damonte Ranch, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Douglas will take on Carson at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Carson will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nevada Rankings (they are ranked 60th, while Douglas is ranked ninth). As for Damonte Ranch, they will head out on the road to square off against Galena at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Galena focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Tuesday.
