On Friday, York was able to grind out a solid victory over Malcolm, taking the game 46-33. The victory was all the more spectacular given York's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 112th, while Malcolm is ranked 34th).
York got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kiersten Portwine out in front who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Kynli Combs, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
York's victory bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Malcolm, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-4.
York will take on North Platte at TBD on Saturday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Clancy Brown and Portwine. Malcolm won't have much time to rest: their next match is against St. Paul at 11:50 a.m. on January 20th. St. Paul is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.
