Appomattox County is a perfect 10-0 against William Campbell since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Raiders will look to defend their home field against the Generals at 5:30 p.m. Appomattox County's pitching crew has only allowed 1.5 runs per game this season, so William Campbell's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Thursday as neither Appomattox County nor Buckingham made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Raiders never let the Knights get on the board and left with a 3-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Raiders in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won seven in a row.
Not much got past Chloe Vaughan, who gave up just three hits and racked up 17 Ks to keep Buckingham off the board. Vaughan has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Paisley Mann was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Bryant, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, William Campbell fell victim to Chatham and their airtight pitching crew last Wednesday. They lost 16-0 to the Cavaliers. The Generals have struggled against the Cavaliers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.
William Campbell saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lilly Puckette, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.
Appomattox County's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for William Campbell, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Appomattox County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 12.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like William Campbell struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Appomattox County took their win against William Campbell when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 12-0 score. Will the Raiders repeat their success, or do the Generals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
