The Maynard Tigers will square off against the Blackstone-Millville Chargers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Maynard has seven straight wins, Blackstone-Millville has eight straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Maynard gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Narragansett Regional. Considering the Tigers have won four contests by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Eddie O'Rourke was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits (and only one walk). O'Rourke was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Thomas Lawton was excellent, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Lawton is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Max Cedeno, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Maynard kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Blackstone-Millville didn't have quite enough to beat Mount St. Charles Academy on Friday and fell 3-1.
James Rebhan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on eight hits.
At the plate, Blackstone-Millville saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andrew Cardarelli, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. That hit marked the first that Cardarelli has got this season.
Maynard's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-0. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 9.3 runs this season. As for Blackstone-Millville, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.
Maynard's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's matchup. The Tigers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Blackstone-Millville, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Maynard continue to outrun the ball?
