The Ocean City Raiders will be taking part in a tournament against the William Penn Charter Quakers at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are still undefeated (Ocean City has four wins , while William Penn Charter has six dating back to last season).
Ocean City's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They blew past Camden Catholic 13-0. That 13 run margin sets a new team best for the Raiders this season.
Jessica Mooney made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Leah Catto, who scored four runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-3. Those stolen bases marked the first that she snagged this season. Kiley McCorristin was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI.
Ocean City lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask William Penn Charter). They were the clear victors by a 19-4 margin over Academy-Notre Dame De Namur on Tuesday. The Quakers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by eight runs or more this season.
Like Ocean City, William Penn Charter also got a great game from a two-way player: Lauren Gedraitis. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Gedraitis was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, three runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Jordan Simon was a standout: she scored two runs while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Nora Prasad, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Ocean City pushed their record up to 4-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 9.5 runs this season. As for William Penn Charter, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.
Saturday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Ocean City has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .457. However, it's not like William Penn Charter struggles in that department as they've averaged .519. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
