Falls Lake is 9-1 against Franklin Academy since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Firebirds will venture away from home to face off against the Patriots at 6:00 p.m. Falls Lake is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
While Falls Lake's win against Wake Prep Academy wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Firebirds sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Guardians on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Firebirds in their matchups with the Guardians: they've now won four in a row.
Falls Lake saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dalton Parker, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1. Owen Joines also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Franklin Academy). They blew past NCSSM: Durham 8-1 on Friday. The Patriots not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since May 3, 2024.
Jackson Denton was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Beau Mitchell was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Franklin Academy has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Falls Lake, the win got them back to even at 6-6.
Falls Lake's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's contest. The Firebirds have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Franklin Academy, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Falls Lake continue to outrun the ball?
Falls Lake beat Franklin Academy 7-3 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Do the Firebirds have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Patriots turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
