They took a 47-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of Central Florida Christian Academy. While losing is never fun, Mater Lakes Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 192nd, while Central Florida Christian Academy is ranked 38th).
Despite the loss, Mater Lakes Academy saw an underclassman step up: Alessandra Wandembergh scored 13 points along with four steals. Wandembergh is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Mya Glover, who scored five points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Mater Lakes Academy has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. As for Central Florida Christian Academy, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-3.
Mater Lakes Academy will head out on the road to square off against Northeast at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Northeast will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. Central Florida Christian Academy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against South Broward at 12:00 p.m. on January 13th. South Broward is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 60.2 points per game.
