The Piedmont Academy Cougars waltzed into their contest on Friday with seven straight wins but they left with eight. Everything went their way against Gatewood as Piedmont Academy made off with a 62-42 win. Given Piedmont Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 107th, while the Gators are ranked 272nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Piedmont Academy was led to victory by Kylee Keck and Marissa Holder. Keck went 6 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 21 points and 1 assist, while Holder dropped a double-double on 22 points and 14 rebounds. Holder is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last 20 games she's played. Teagan Satterfield was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Piedmont Academy's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-7. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.6 points per game. As for Gatewood, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-12 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Piedmont Academy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Buccaneers at 1:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Briarwood Academy and the Cougars are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. As for Gatewood, they will head out on the road to face off against the Cavaliers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Augusta Prep Day is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
