The Athol Bears's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their tenth straight loss. They took a 40-29 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hopkins Academy. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Athol in their matchups with Hopkins Academy: they've now lost six in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Athol lost, one person who can't be blamed is Anna Duquette. Despite the final result, she scored four points along with 12 blocks and seven rebounds. Duquette hasn't dropped below two blocks for four straight games.
Athol's loss was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-11. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 20.6 points per game. As for Hopkins Academy, their win ended a three-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Athol will take on Putnam Vo-Tech at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Hopkins Academy, they will be playing at home against Lenox Memorial at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
