After flying high against the Central Academy Cougars last Tuesday, the Anson Bearcats came back down to earth. Anson took a 79-65 bruising from Parkwood on Friday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Anson in their matchups with Parkwood: they've now lost seven in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Anson lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jayden Little. Despite the final result, he scored 33 points along with six rebounds and four steals. That was a full 50.8% of Anson's points, marking the 11th time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Ryan Robinson was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Parkwood's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cameron McKinney, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds. McKinney has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Malik Paulhill, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Anson has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-10 record this season. As for Parkwood, they pushed their record up to 13-7 with that win, which was their eighth straight at home.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Monroe the next time they take the court. Anson will head out to face Monroe at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Parkwood will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
