Softball Recap: Pleasant Hill Takes a Loss

Pleasant Hill dropped their record down to 8-3 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Pittsfield Saukees by a score of 4-3. Wolves fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Saukees since on Tuesday.

Ava Wombles was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out 17 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Kaitlyn Borrowman was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

As for Pittsfield, their record is now 12-3-1. The game was the first time they have beaten Pleasant Hill on their field since April 18, 2017.

On Pittsfield's side, Emma Wombles spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on seven hits and racked up 12 Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lila Simon, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Emma Henry, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Coming up, Pleasant Hill is taking a road trip to take on Routt Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Wolves are facing the Rockets at the right time seeing as the Rockets are stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for Pittsfield, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 1-0 defeat against Beardstown on the 23rd.
