West Elk is 10-0 against Flinthills since February of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The West Elk Patriots will head out on the road to square off against the Flinthills Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully West Elk focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Friday.
Last Friday, things could have been worse for West Elk, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 58-41 loss to Caldwell. West Elk has not had much luck with Caldwell recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite their loss, West Elk saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Uriah Tillapaugh, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and two steals, was perhaps the best of all. Tillapaugh is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Martin Shipley, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Flinthills' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight defeat. They suffered a rough 50-27 loss at the hands of Central. While losing is never fun, Flinthills can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 319th, while Central is ranked 134th).
West Elk's defeat dropped their record down to 11-6. As for Flinthills, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-9.
West Elk beat Flinthills 61-51 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for West Elk since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
