The Orem Tigers will square off against the Desert Hills Thunder at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Orem is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 16-9 margin over Mountain Crest.
Sadie Groneman and Jaileigh DeMaria did most of the damage at the plate: Groneman fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-4, while DeMaria fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 3-for-5. That's the most home runs Groneman has posted since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Camber Hancock, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
Orem was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. They are 14-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Desert Hills entered their tilt with Stansbury on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Stallions with a sharp 13-3 victory.
Sam Spencer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, Desert Hills let Riley Greene and Lulu West run wild. Greene went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base, while West went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Sienna Foster was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
Orem's record now sits at 19-12. As for Desert Hills, their record is now 27-3.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Orem hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .401. However, it's not like Desert Hills struggles in that department as they've averaged .378. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Orem might still be hurting after the 12-6 loss they got from Desert Hills in their previous meeting back in May of 2018. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
